Garden Gab, Loss
JamieAnne ♦ June 15, 2012 ♦ 9 Comments
My 1st tomato child (first tomato plant I planted) is dying. This year is the 1st year since I began gardening, 3 years ago, that my tomato plants have been fruitful. Tomatoes are hard for me for some reason. š¦
The leaves began to take on a golden hue. I went to my favorite garden center (not a box store) and was told I needed a good quality (and super stinky) fertilizer. Let me just tell you…blood meal and bone meal and all the other things in this nursery made concoction smells like Dead Fish. It’s Really. Really. Gross.
I’m at a loss about what else to try.

Plants can’t all be winners, unfortunately. I lost a pepper plant that I think just gave up, since all the peppers around it did (and are still doing) just fine.
It’s strange huh? I’m sorry you lost a pepper plant. š¦
It turned out for the best, because it meant I got to replace a boring ol’ bell pepper plant with a SPICY bell pepper plant! And that one’s going strong, even if it’s a few weeks behind the others.
Oh dear, such a shame š¦
What a bummer! Maybe you will get some tomatoes off of it before the end.
Is it possible that you are overwatering? I water my tomatoes very deep, but this time of year only once a week…but I don’t know your climate, so that may not be an applicable comment! i have a thriving garden this year, and some years not! Don’t give up…it’s early yet. Get another plant š Debra
Thanks Debra. It’s possible that the tomatoes might be getting too much water.
Aw, sorry to hear about your tomato plant.
The same thing happened to me! It turned out to be spider mites! I checked with the Texas guru Neil Sperry and he confirmed it. They were doing so well, then started yellowing and then it was to the point of no return. I was so disappointed.
