New life for old fruit.
.
Do you have an old lemon or lime on the counter or in the fridge?
Is it past the point where you would use it for food? Yep, me too.
Is your microwave in need of a good cleaning? Me too!
I use my old lemons and limes to help soften the nuked on yuck in my microwave.
My kids love to use the microwave, but it seems that the plate cover is a foreign thing. They rarely use it, unless they’re making popcorn (which should NOT have a plate cover over it, we learned that 1st hand).
I cut up my too old limes and lemons, put them in a microwave safe bowl with some liquid dish soap and water. I microwave it for 8 min, check the softness of the yuck and then usually microwave it for about 4-6 min more. Then wipe with damp towel or paper towel.
It will soften the grime and allow for easy cleaning. If you have super stuck on yuck (like I did) you can use the hot, soapy citrus water to scrub off the stubborn yuck. Just don’t burn yourself. That water will be HOT!
Then I dump the warm, soapy citrus in the garbage disposal and clean that too.
Another good cleaning hint, to clean your dishwasher add 2 cups of white vinegar and dishwasher soap. Run a short cycle. I like this better than chemical cleaners.
I hope you have a super weekend. I’ll be back on Monday!
